Inputs

How we calculate this

EV annual energy use is annual mileage divided by miles per kWh, multiplied by the electricity rate.

Petrol annual fuel use converts miles per gallon into litres, then multiplies by the petrol price per litre.

Break-even time compares the purchase price difference with the annual fuel saving. It does not include insurance, servicing, depreciation, finance interest or tax unless those are added in a future version.

FAQs

Does this calculator include depreciation?

No. Phase 1A compares fuel and purchase price assumptions only. Depreciation can change the result and should be checked before buying.

Why does the calculator ask for miles per kWh?

Miles per kWh is the EV equivalent of fuel efficiency. A higher number means the car travels further on each unit of electricity.
